Finding Balance at Bohanan’s

Writer & Photographer: Nick Blevins

I had the pleasure of dinner at Bohanan’s recently, checking out their appetizer menu, as well as their wines. As a relative wine novice however, the ability to confidently pair a certain vintage with a certain dish — beyond it just “tasting good” — had long eluded me. At the risk of sounding dramatic, I spent years indifferent to the possibilities that existed, and the reactions that could occur when two distinct flavor profiles are knowledgeably combined into something greater than the sum of its parts. While many glasses have passed these lips, I had simply not explored the gustatory delights that pairings can offer.

I should have known that a place so discerning about their tannins and terroirs would have me covered.

Just look at the photos. Yes, it was delicious. Yes, you should go. Don’t let the lack of prices on the website scare you; the apps are affordable, and generous if you’re splitting with a friend to try more items, though you may want to be decisive on the wine — there are a lot of options. Make sure to ask for a recommendation, and watch a whole new dimension of flavor open up! Vino vets can rest assured as well that Bohanan’s have their top people running the show, with both horizontal and vertical wine pairings on offer for those who want to really dig deep.

Take a date. Heck, take yourself. You deserve nice things too. ■

Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood is open seven days a week, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m.
