24th Annual Hearts in Harmony Gala

By Leslie Foley

The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas brought the community together for its 24th annual Hearts in Harmony Gala, held February 20 at the Witte Museum Mays Family Center. Over 500 guests joined to support the Center’s mission to foster healing for grieving children and youth, their families, and the community. CBCST board member Mary Ullmann Japhet welcomed guests and introduced Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert to give the invocation, followed by warm remarks from CEO Kristina Hernandez.

Attendees heard the story of Alina, a CBCST client who attends Little Hearts, a program designed to support children aged 3-5 on their journey through loss. Alina's story of resilience and growth reverberated among those present.

Punctuating an incredible evening, Alina was surprised with a birthday cake from Sofia Tejeda, executive pastry chef at InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk, kindly sponsored by a live auction package that sold for $550. The gala raised over $550,000 for CBCST, ensuring that no child has to walk the painful journey of grief alone.
